Great to drink any time of the day or night, this antioxidant powerhouse is sure to have a positive effect on your symptoms and keep free radical damage at bay.

The ingredients in this supercharged arthritis tonic are scientifically proven to contain a host of powerful phytochemicals, essential oils, and other inflammation-fighting compounds.
When this juice is added to your regime and it will boost immunity (yes RA patients, we do need to boost immunity), fight disease, and quench the free radical fires that can damage our cells.

Let’s get started

Arthritis tonic Ingredients

  • 4 to 5 inches of a turmeric root
Inflammation and arthritis busting juice tonic

Inflammation and arthritis busting juice tonic

  • 2 to 3 inches of a ginger root
  • One orange
  • Two lemons
  • One cucumber
  • Five carrots
  • 1 Tbsp. holy basil powder (if using fresh, use two Tbsp.)
  • 1/4 tsp. powdered cayenne pepper
  • 1 serving of protein powder (optional)

How to make our arthritis tonic

You will need a juicer. We are fortunate enough to have an angel juicer, but it’s not necessary for this juice, any centrifugal juicer will work just fine.

We think this arthritis tonic is important, so we made you a video to help explain how to make it.

The powerful ingredients that power this arthritis tonic

Turmeric the natural anti-inflammatory

Turmeric roots contain an active ingredient called Curcumin, which is known to possess potent anti-arthritic and anti-inflammatory properties.

Research published in 2012 shows curcumin to be a superior treatment to diclofenac sodium when used for the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.

Curcumin can inhibit the activity and synthesis of inflammatory enzymes such as cyclooxygenase-2 (COX2) and 5-lipooxygenase (5-LOX) and has been shown to positively influence over 700 genes.

Best of all Curcumin is safe to use and has no side effects.

You can find the study here.

[blockquote author=”” pull=”normal”]”Interestingly, the curcumin group showed the highest percentage of improvement… and these scores were significantly better than the patients in the diclofenac sodium [Voltaren] group. More importantly, curcumin treatment was found to be safe and did not relate to any adverse events. Our study provides the first evidence for the safety and superiority of curcumin treatment in patients with active RA.”[/blockquote]

Below are the suggested amounts of turmeric to add to the tonic in their different forms.

  • 1 – 3 g per day-dried, powdered root
  • 30 – 90 drops a day-fluid extract(1:1)
  • 15 – 30 drops, 4 times per day-Tincture (1:2)
  • 1.5 – 3 g per day-cut root
  • 400 – 600 mg, 3 times per day-standardized powder (curcumin)

I have to caution that the above ratios are not a cure for arthritis. The ratios are a sensible indication of the doses needed to produce an effective arthritis tonic.

More reasons to make this powerful tonic

Ginger

Revered throughout the ancient world as a medicinal healing plant gingers anti-inflammatory and wound healing properties are well known.

Two clinical studies have found that 75% of arthritis patients and 100% of patients with muscular discomfort experience relief from pain and/or swelling when using ginger.

Ginger contains very potent anti-inflammatory compounds called gingerols. This active phenolic constituent was shown to significantly inhibit the production of nitric oxide and reduce inflammation.

Ginger suppresses pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines produced by cells in synovial linings

Ginger has also been shown to suppress the pro-inflammatory cytokines and chemokines produced by the cells that make up our joints synovial linings. The same beneficial effects have been seen in chondrocytes ( joint cartilage cells) and immune cells called leukocytes.

Cucumber

Hydrating super food cucumber is great for the skin, nails and helping you maintain a healthy weight, but did you know cumber contains high levels of bone building vitamin K.

Animal studies suggest cucumber cools inflammation by inhibiting the activity of pro-inflammatory enzymes like the cox-2 (cyclo-oxygenase 2) enzyme.

Cucumbers also contain the potent antioxidant flavonoids, apigenin, luteolin, quercetin, and kaempferol which provide protection from free radical damage.

Lemon

Lemons are the acid/alkaline balancing super food that we should all be using in our juices and drinks. Great in straight mineral water on a hot day or in spicy juices, lemons are a juicers favourite.

Lemon juice adds that sharpness needed to cut through these very spicy flavours.

Holy Basil

known in natural medicine as a powerful adaptogenic herb, Holy basil is an immune system booster that calms stress hormones and normalises internal processes.

phytonutrient rich oils including,  ursolic acid, rosmarinic acid, caryophyllene, and eugenol combine to form a beautifully smelling, mood booster of a tonic that instantly lifts the spirits, and gets the culinary juices flowing.

Eugenol has been shown in studies to enhance mental clarity and combat stress. Its Great for those heavy brain fog days when your feeling low and lack the enthusiasm needed to make you exercise or be active.

If you have RA you need to physically get moving in order to pump the lymphatic system and move those fluids that house your immune system.

Anti-inflammatory holy basil

Studies in rats have suggested the anti-inflammatory powers of holy basil are due to its ability to block the cyclooxygenase and lipoxygenase pathways, of arachidonic acid metabolism.

Holy basil is traditionally used to treat:

  • Asthma.
  • Bronchitis.

  • Common cold.

  • Influenza (“the flu”).

  • Earache.

  • Headache.

  • Heart disease.

  • Fever.

  • Insomnia.

  • Viral hepatitis.

  • Malaria.

  • Tuberculosis.

  • Mercury poisoning.

  • Ringworm.

  • Stomach upset.

  • Snake and scorpion bites.

  • Many more.

Interactions

Medications that slow blood clotting (Anticoagulant / Antiplatelet) drugs interact with HOLY BASIL

Pentobarbital interacts with HOLY BASIL and can cause added drowsiness.

Finally

We have added a scoop of protein powder to ward off rheumatoid cachexia. I am still rebuilding my body after a severe bout of rheumatoid arthritis and want to keep it looking good.

This extra scoop is optional, but I usually add a scoop to one or two of my juices during the day just to make sure I’m good.

Some people don’t get along with higher protein diets and that’s fine. This option is for anyone who might be trying to prevent muscle loss or anyone rebuilding their lives after a long-term condition such as RA.

Conclusion

Arthritis is a painful debilitating condition, but it doesn’t have to be! My own experience is ample evidence that adding these powerful foods to your diet can stop arthritis inflammation, and even begin to reverse deformity.

Eating this way keeps me pain-free, even after deformity has happened!
